After a successful premiere in 2009, a localised and scaled down version of the influential annual TED conference is coming to Amsterdam on 30 November 2010.
TED is an annual event where some of the world's leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) comprises the three broad subject areas that are collectively shaping our future.
TEDxAmsterdam is an independently organised TED event which includes TEDTalks video and live speakers, combined to spark in-depth discussions and networking opportunities.
2010 TEDxAmsterdam will be held in the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam. This grand city theatre will provide a stage for the new ideas of bold thinkers and innovators in the fields of technology, entertainment, design, art, science and business. This year’s theme will be “Science and Fiction.”
Speakers
The line up of speakers reflects the overall theme of ‘’Science & Fiction,’’ and includes scientists as well as artists, entrepreneurs, actors, and a variety of others who definitely have ‘’ideas worth spreading.” Nobel laureate Professor Gerard ‘t Hooft, Professor of Theoretical Physics with the department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Utrecht, will separate fact from fiction during his speech at TEDx.
People who will share their ideas during TEDxAmsterdam 2010 include: Luke Nosek, an entrepreneur and co-founder of Pay Pal; Claron McFadden, a world class American soprano; and Rutger Hauer, a Dutch stage, film and television actor who won a Golden Globe.
Jim Stolze, initiator of TEDxAmsterdam says in an interview on the Dutch website Marketingfacts: “TED seems to be more popular than ever. Our website is being read by more and more people and the number of TEDx events is increasing every day.”
