The first European edition of the Games for Health Conference was held in Amsterdam on 24 & 25 October 2011 at the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ. More than 500 participants attended inspiring presentations, experienced state of the art demonstrations and shared knowledge in informative workshops.
Conference content was provided by a wide range of researchers, game developers and medical professionals. The best minds in game development & simulation and health care came together to advance game technologies that improve health and the delivery of health care.
Topics included exergaming, physical therapy, disease management, behaviour change, biofeedback, rehab, epidemiology, training, cognitive health, nutrition and health education.
Amsterdam was the perfect place to host the European edition of Games for Health. The city a leading conference location and both the gaming and the health sciences industries flourish in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area.
According to a recent Deloitte report, the Dutch gaming industry is poised to benefit as the global trend towards online and mobile gaming continues to rise. The Amsterdam Metropolitan Area is home to 51 gaming, developing and publishing companies and remains a hotspot for gaming expansion. The industry is booming with an annual growth rate of 9%.
The medical sector is also well-developed in the Amsterdam Area. The area has a strong focus on biomedical and human health and with over 20,000 employees, has the highest concentration of life sciences researchers in the Netherlands.
