European Society of Cardiology (ESC) comes to Amsterdam

Amsterdam will host the European Society of Cardiology Congress from 31 August to 4 September 2013. The ESC Congress is renowned as the largest medical conference in Europe.

The world’s largest cardiovascular conference

The congress is currently expected to attract in excess of 30,000 participants from more than 150 countries, including high-ranking speakers and industry representatives.

Every year, the European Society of Cardiology unites a broad spectrum of cardiology professionals, ranging from surgeons to clinicians and researchers to nurses. The ESC Congress is the largest medical conference in Europe and also boasts the title of the largest cardiovascular conference in the world.

Amsterdam: City of Meetings

The ESC Congress 2013 will be held in the Amsterdam RAI, a location that has proven that it can effortlessly welcome upwards of 30,000 participants.

The World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) is another major conference held at the Amsterdam RAI which took place from 25 to 27 May 2010 and united delegates from over 90 countries.

Honoured and proud

Chairman of the Amsterdam RAI Executive Board, Hans Bakker expressed his pleasure at being selected to host the 2013 conference: "We are extremely honoured and proud that the ESC Congress is heading to Amsterdam."

"The entire team is absolutely aware of the significance of Europe’s largest medical congress and will be going all out to ensure that the ESC Congress 2013 is a roaring success. During the selection procedure, the close cooperation between the local Amsterdam government, the business community and the tertiary sector all helped to make it abundantly clear that Amsterdam is set on becoming the European City of Meetings.”

More than 500 international congresses each year

Stefan Diender, General Director of the Amsterdam Tourism and Convention Board (ATCB) supported Bakker’s enthusiasm saying: "Amsterdam helps bring about more than 500 international congresses every year. The Amsterdam business community and tertiary sector are committed to bringing more and larger congresses and events to the city.”

Top-ten international meeting place

The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) ranking of the most popular congress cities indicates that Amsterdam is making inroads towards becoming the European City of Meetings. In 2009, the ICCA ranked Amsterdam as the eighth best congress city in the world.
