Eisai, a Japanese pharmaceutical company, announced the establishment of its sales and marketing operation in the Netherlands. The new office will be based in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area.
Commenting on the opening of the new subsidiary, Eisai Netherlands’ Managing Director, Gert-Jan Kouseband said: "Eisai's entry into the Netherlands is aligned with the company's wider strategy of establishing a solid foundation in Europe".
The Dutch company's initial area of focus is epilepsy and a dedicated Eisai team has already been established. The first Eisai product on the Dutch market is Zonegran (zonisamide), used to treat epilepsy. It is estimated that 100,000 Dutch people suffer from epilepsy and the availability of Zonegran (zonisamide), an adjunctive treatment for adults with partial seizures, with or without secondary generalisation, "will provide an additional treatment option to help manage their condition". Eisai Netherlands is committed to developing and delivering new medications to help improve the lives of people with epilepsy.
Eisai is involved with the manufacturing and marketing of pharmaceutical drugs, over-the-counter drugs and pharmaceutical production systems and equipment. The company concentrates its Research and Development (R&D) activities in three key areas: integrative neuroscience (Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy), integrative oncology (anticancer therapies) and vascular/immunological reaction (Acute coronary syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis).
With the establishment of Eisai, the Amsterdam Area welcomes another Japanese company to the region. Japan has been the largest foreign investor in the Amsterdam Area after the U.S. for many years. The competitive tax regime, strategic location and presence of the second largest Japanese community acts as a magnet for Japanese firms.
To help the Japanese community feel at home, the region offers specialised medical care:
Japan Desk at the Amstelland Hospital;
Regular medical check-ups by Japanese doctors in the Amstelland Hospital;
Japanese dentist;
Hospitals in the area, such as the VU University Hospital and the AMC Hospital, providing state-of-the-art heath care.
Agendia, Humana and MammaPrint
