The Europe India Chamber of Commerce (EICC) has set up a representative office in Amsterdam.
The EICC is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation which represents the views of European and Indian business and professional communities.
The EICC aims to foster a bilateral dialogue between business and decision makers, encourage progressive economic policies and foster business in both Europe and India.
The Indian community is the fastest growing foreign business community in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. Below are some reasons why the area attracts Indian firms:
Large pool of international, innovative service providers: The Amsterdam Area hosts global enterprises in many fields of professional services such as: legal affairs, media, ICT, pensions and tax consultancy. The efficient supply ensures that businesses in the area are served promptly and adequately.
Setting up a European Head office for Indian firms in Amsterdam is cost effective according to a competitiveness benchmark for head office activities completed by Ernst & Young International Location Advisory Services. The aggregated costs are the lowest in Amsterdam followed by Brussels and Dusseldorf. London has the highest costs according to the benchmark.
Excellent access to well developed markets: With its central location and excellent physical and ICT infrastructure, the Amsterdam Area is a gateway to Europe and beyond. The Amsterdam Area is well connected to the primary Indian cities. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport offers a large number of direct flights to both intercontinental and European destinations, including daily flights to several Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad (KLM/Air France, Delta Alliance).
Access to a vast supply of highly talented staff: The Amsterdam Area offers a large, highly-skilled and flexible labour force at competitive rates. The area’s labour costs are attractive to Indian companies not only because Amsterdam has the lowest social contribution (12,5%) paid by the employer, but it also offers the best performance incentives compared to the UK, Belgium and Germany, according to the competitiveness benchmark.
Economic ties between the Amsterdam Area and India are strong. Indian delegates and their Dutch counterparts make numerous visits back and forth. The Dutch Minister of Transport, Mrs Schultz van Haegen, will visit the cities of Mumbai and Delhi together with delegates from 2 to 9 April 2011.
