According to the Chinese newspaper, the China Daily, the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (AMA) is a magnet for Chinese companies, and it reports that the number of Chinese companies operating in the Netherlands is likely to double or triple in the coming years.
The article in the Chinese paper appeared after the successful trip to Beijing by Amsterdam mayor Eberhard Van der Laan and an AMA delegation.
Officials quoted in the China Daily article expect that the number of Chinese companies in the AMA will grow 20% this year with the addition of approximately 30 new Chinese companies establishing offices.
Huawei, China's largest telecom and IT company will expand further this year, opening a European headquarters for its Enterprise Business Group. In its first year, this activity will result in 100 immediate job placements additional to the 300 employees Huawei already has in Amsterdam.
In January 2011, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) moved into Amsterdam, and in the first half of the year it proved to be the most successful of their five recently opened European sites.
LiuGong; a Chinese company producing construction machinery, has opened its European headquarters in Amsterdam. From Amsterdam, LuiGong intends to expand into the European construction equipment market.
