On 29 September 2011, TNT Express officially opened the most sustainable office in Europe (according to a press release by developers OVG). TNT Express is one the largest express delivery companies in the world. Their new office is located in Hoofddorp, part of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area.
The building was constructed using the most sustainable light, ventilation and recycled material technologies, resulting in an ‘energy positive’ building.
This means that the building produces more energy than it consumes - the surplus being used to supply surrounding buildings.
The press release states that it is the first office building in the Netherlands to comply with upcoming EU regulations on energy neutral buildings. The building is also certified ‘Platinum’ - the highest environmental rating under the LEED New Construction designation (v2.2.).
The new office was developed by property developer OVG and Triodos Bank and is located on the Beukenhorst-Zuid site in Hoofddorp. Beukenhorst-Zuid is within walking distance Hoofddorp Station and is also easily accessible by car. Beukenhorst-Zuid is quickly developing into the most sustainable, full-service business park in the Netherlands.
“The opening marks another step in the evolution of TNT Express, a Dutch-based and Dutch-listed international express transportation company. It is the culmination of several years of work to improve the sustainability of our activities."
"Close to our European transport hubs and to some of our major customers, this building provides a central, practical environment for all our employees to work in. The new building is the axis from where we can connect Europe", said Marie-Christine Lombard, CEO of TNT Express.
