The Amsterdam Metropolitan Area is an extremely popular location for companies to set up shop according to research carried out by Stec, a consultancy firm in the field of real estate and economic development.
Both the Amsterdam Area and Western Brabant proved to be popular Dutch business locations. The Amsterdam Area is especially attractive to international companies, according to research by Stec (in Dutch). As in other years, the Amsterdam Area acted as a magnet for international headquarters and companies that are active in the financial industry.
These findings are in-line with the 2010 results published by amsterdam inbusiness. Last year, the Amsterdam Area welcomed 122 new international companies and 29 of these are active in the financial industry.
This movement of companies in 2010 indicates that the combination of global accessibility, fiscal climate, available talent at home and abroad, high quality of life and innovative services offered, all help make the Amsterdam Area an attractive location for relocation.
Amsterdam attracts companies to establish their European headquarters in the area and ranks in second place after London. The headquarters of 32 new companies have been set up in the region, compared to 18 in 2009.
US chemical company Kraton Polymer opened their European headquarters in the area in October, creating 50 new jobs. New Zealand's Fonterra, one of the largest dairy producers in the world, moved its European headquarters from Hamburg to Amsterdam.
