The Amsterdam Metropolitan Area is recovering well from the economic crisis. The symposium Economic Outlook for the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area 2011 presented a favourable economic forecast on 16 February 2011.
The forecasts were conducted for the Regional Economic Stimulation Platform (PRES) and serve as a compass for managers, entrepreneurs and policy makers involved in strategic economic decision making.
According to the forecasts (Dutch) the region’s strong recovery from the economic crisis has been quick and effective. The gross regional product (GRP) shrank in 2009 by 3.4%, grew in 2010 by 2.9% and is expected to continue to increase by 3.4% in 2011.
The outlook for the region is favourable. Financial and professional services are expected to continue to recover. This sector is already the most significant in the region, with approximately a third of the GRP earned in this sector alone.
Compared to the rest of the Netherlands, many residents living in the metropolitan region are highly educated. This, in part, makes for an attractive workforce. Labour productivity in the region is above the national average, which increases the competitiveness of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area.
