Life is good in Westerpark. That’s probably because residents, squatters and artists have had a lot of say when it comes to the conservation and use of the area's historic buildings and residences. The many industrial monuments that have been lovingly transformed into vibrant eateries or cultural hubs are what give this neighbourhood its easy-going atmosphere. While the park enclosure’s former water works and gas factory buildings certainly serve as architectural highlights, the Amsterdam School housing corporation building also lends the area a pleasing look. Further west, you’ll find a series of renovated factory buildings that now house the environmentally-friendly Ecowijk complex, a cultural area and working space for creative businesses. The area is also teeming with great restaurants, pleasant terraces with water gardens and a friendly atmosphere. We promise, once you’ve been to Westerpark, you won’t want to leave!
