At the awards ceremony, which took place this evening in Madrid, the commercial director of Amsterdam Marketing, Eduard Pieter Oud, was presented with the ‘Ulysses Award’ for the project ‘Visit Amsterdam, See Holland’.
Excellence and innovation
The Ulysses Awards have stood for excellence and innovation in the tourism sector since 2003. The winning project, ‘Visit Amsterdam, See Holland’, uses the allure of Amsterdam to entice international visitors to explore the region beyond the city.
Boudewijn Bokdam, Amsterdam Marketing project manager: “The project ‘Visit Amsterdam, See Holland’ owes its success to a constructive collaboration between the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, 27 municipalities, and the provinces of North Holland and Flevoland. Since the start of the project, the number of international visitors exploring the region from Amsterdam has grown by almost 30%, while the related tourist spending in the region has risen by 300 million euros.
Dennis Straat, the civic official responsible for promoting Tourism in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, congratulates Amsterdam Marketing wholeheartedly with this award: “Visitors are enormously important to our economy, but they also put pressure on some popular sites. So it’s essential to spread visitors across the region. With ‘Visit Amsterdam, See Holland’ we’ve been doing this successfully together for years. This prestigious international award for Amsterdam Marketing as operational partner in the project proves that we are on the right track.”

In the category ‘Innovation in Research and Technology’, it was Olivier Ponti, Research Manager at Amsterdam Marketing, who accepted the runner-up award: “It’s fantastic and a great honour to see ‘Key Figures: Amsterdam as a convention destination’ recognised in this way.” ‘Key figures: Amsterdam as a convention destination’ gives a human face to statistical data, which in turn contributes to clear operational decision-making.”
