Gateway to Europe
Hubs
The Amsterdam Area is home to three major hubs: Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Amsterdam Port and the AMS-IX (the largest internet exchange on mainland Europe). The presence of an international airport and major seaport makes the Amsterdam Area a multi-modal hub with easy global accessibility, in addition to its unique strategic position as a gateway all major European markets.
Amsterdam Port
Amsterdam is one of the most important junctions in Europe for combined water, road, railway and air transport. With annual goods transhipments over 70 millions tons, the Port of Amsterdam plays a crucial role for European business. The proximity of the sea, the many connections with the European hinterland and the short distance to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol are among the favourable conditions for optimal logistics and distribution.
Port Facilities
The Amsterdam port has facilities for all types of cargo: dry and liquid bulk, general cargo and containers. The port has a unique location. It is a tideless port with a short entry time from the sea. The transit time through the North Sea Canal, including passing through the locks, is generally less than two and a half hours even for large vessels.
European Distribution Centre
DHL, Sigma Coatings, Starbucks and Hitachi are just examples of many great names that set up European distribution centres and value added logistics operations in the Amsterdam Port. There are over two hundred head offices and dozens of European distribution centres in the immediate vicinity of the port area.
