Amstelveen
Attractive Living
Amstelveen is one of the five most attractive places to live in the Netherlands, and is in fact ranked first in terms of its socio-economic index. And rightly so: the city has pleasant residential districts and lovely parks, but is also a true economic centre that is home to many top companies, which employ more than 40,000 people.
Shopping
The shopping centre in the heart of Amstelveen is highly popular, drawing visitors from throughout the country. All the large department stores can be found here, together with ample parking facilities. Enjoyable activities take place nearly every weekend, and consumers have justifiably nominated it as the most attractive shopping centre in the whole Amsterdam region.
International Character
Amstelveen has a very international character. In addition to the many foreign companies that have put down roots here, a great number of expats from the four corners of the globe have also quickly come to see Amstelveen as home. To help them feel even more at home, we have developed special booklets for new residents, packed with useful tips and information.
International School
The International School of Amsterdam (ISA, www.isa.nl) was founded in 1964 to cater for the educational needs of children of the international community living in and around Amstelveen. ISA is a non-sectarian, non-profit, co-educational day school. Students can enrol from pre-school up to Grade 13 (ages 3 to 19 years). The academic programme is based on the International Baccalaureat and is taught in English. It has been specially created for students who will be studying in the Netherlands for several years before returning home, or for students who will complete their education in other international schools.
Unique Location
Thanks to Amstelveen’s unique location – adjacent to the Dutch capital, Amsterdam, with its superb museums, canals and financial centre, yet with Amsterdam Airport Schiphol just five minutes away – it is a great location for business. We believe that every company has the right to benefit from personal attention from the Municipal Council: we are pleased to see you, and we are open for business.
International Business Centre
Amstelveen has attracted many international businesses, including KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Canon, Hewlett-Packard, Yakult and Xerox, many with their European headquarters here. Scores of publishers, advertising agencies, graphic designers and insurers have settled in Amstelveen as well, taking advantage of a well-educated and multilingual workforce.
