This excursion takes you to the countryside north of Amsterdam, to the edge of the river Zaan. Here you'll visit the windmill village 'de Zaanse Schans', with its characteristic green wooden houses. On the turn of the 18th century this district was an industrial area with approximately 700 windmills in use. In this day and age there are only five left. You'll pay a visit to a windmill and a wooden shoe factory. Through typical Dutch scenery you will continue to the medieval town of Edam for a city walk and the traditional fisherman's village of Volendam, situated on the shores of the former Zuiderzee. Some of the inhabitants still wear the traditional Dutch costumes. This tour also includes a visit to a cheese farm (entrance fee windmill included).
