The Harbour Museum Society (Vereniging Museumhaven) is a sheltered port area in Amsterdam where 20 historic ships that date back to the turn of the last century are docked. On the quays, old shipyard utensils are also on display. A complimentary brochure to accompany you on a quay-side walk is available.
Activities.
The main tasks of the Harbour Museum Society are the restoration, preservation, maintenance and the presentation of sailing vessels older than 50 years. The key to their work is to try and preserve the original character of the boats. The port is to be found between NEMO and the Maritime Museum.
Collection.
The Harbour Museum Society ships range from clippers to luxury motorboats to tugs. This historic port served both the navy and the he VOC merchant ships in the 17th century, and was a centre for internal shipping till the twentieth century. Anyone interested in maritime history will find this a delightful area to stroll along.
